Acquire Pictures
Focus Photoeditor can acquire pictures from a scanner or read files directly from your hard drive.
Using a Scanner
From main menu select File > Acquire from Scanner. If you have more than a twain interface you will be asked to select the one you want to use for the task.
After this your scanning software window should open and you can start to acquire pictures.
Which scanner resolution should I choose?
If you need pictures to be used as part of a web site or just for a screen-show, a DPI value between 100 and 150 will be enough. For printing, you may want to choose a higher value. 200 dpi is a very good resolution for home printing. Typically there is not any real advantage to print a picture scanned at more than 300 dpi, unless you are going to create a very large print.
Remember the greater the resolution the greater will be the size of the picture in memory and the more powerful must be your hardware to process it.
To rotate a scanned document automatically, choose from main menu > Transform > Auto Rotate Scanned Document. Then Crop yourself the picture to eliminate the borders.
Opening Picture Files
From the main menu select File > Open Pictures from File. After the form is shown to you, pick a file from your computer and press the "open" button. You can even select multiple files to open, in the same way as you would do it using the windows explorer.
Browsing Pictures on Disk
Select from the main menu File > Browse Pictures. The window below opens:
On the left you can see the Folders' tree: select here the folder to browse, by a single click on a node.
The browser will start loading the thumbnails for the selected folder.
Thumbnails will be stored into a database file for faster retrieval: you don't have to worry for garbage in your folders, because just one database file is created in the Focus Photoeditor temporary folder.
- Browser Options:
You can choose to view / hide the different file's attributes, by checking / unchecking the appropriate options in the top panel.
You can also show or hide 2 special buttons for each thumbnail that will let you rotate the picture by 90 degrees left or right, before loading. The file will not be rotated, just the picture in the editor will be.
You can set the thumbnail size, using the thumb size slider.
You can sort the thumbs by name, date, size and other attributes.
You can filter the thumbs to see just certain graphics files.
- Select Pictures:
You can select files by clicking their thumbnails: to select multiple files hold the ctrl key or the shift key while selecting.
- Import Selected Pictures:
After selecting one or more files, to open them, just click the Load button.
If you want to leave without importing any file just click the cancel button.
_ Right Click Menu:
If you click on the picture browser with the right mouse button, a menu will popup which has many operations you can perform.
